Swedish researchers have found a property issue of the human heart, the rate at which muscle cells are renewed during the life of a person.

This finding refutes what was the conventional wisdom: that the heart can not produce new muscle cells and, therefore, people die with the same heart with which they were born. At age 25, about 1% of cardiac cells are renewed annually, and that rate drops to less than 0.5% per year to 75 years, concluded the team. This means that about half of the heart muscle cells are renewed throughout a normal life.

We are certainly against one of the most important works of cardiovascular medicine in years, helping to resolve a longstanding controversy about whether the human heart has the capacity to regenerate. If the heart can renew their cells in the future we can develop drugs to accelerate the process, because the heart fails to replace cells that die during a heart attack.
